Phoenix Tooth Extractions
We’re committed to helping you keep your teeth for a lifetime. With our wide array of services, we will always try to save a damaged tooth. Sometimes, however, removal of a tooth is deemed to be the best course of treatment.
There are several cases where you and your doctor at Dental Care at Moon Valley may determine that extracting a tooth is the only option. A tooth may need to be extracted because it’s severely decayed, compromised by advanced periodontal disease, or damaged in such a way that it cannot be repaired. Sometimes a tooth needs to be removed because it’s poorly positioned in the mouth (such as wisdom teeth), or in preparation for orthodontic treatment.
Your Comfort Is Our Priority
The comfort and safety of all our patients are of paramount importance to our professional team. If fear or anxiety is a concern for you, please let us know beforehand. Millions of people are apprehensive about dental visits, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of. By sharing your concerns, we can take the steps necessary to ensure that your experience is anxiety-free and as comfortable as possible.
The tooth extraction process is straightforward. First we’ll make sure you’re settled in and comfortable before we begin. Next, we numb your mouth with a local anesthetic to eliminate pain at the site of the extraction. The unwanted tooth is then carefully removed by one of our gentle, skilled dentists. If at any time during the procedure you feel uncomfortable, we ask that you please let us know right away.
We advise that you refrain from rinsing your mouth vigorously, drinking through a straw, or smoking for 24 hours. These activities could dislodge the clot that's forming, delaying healing.
In the first couple days after extraction, if you must rinse your mouth, do so gently. If you have any pain or swelling, apply a cold compress for 20 minutes off and on. Continue to brush and floss your other teeth carefully, but don't clean the teeth next to the tooth socket.
Tooth Replacement Options
Replacing a missing tooth is important for several reasons. A replacement tooth improves your appearance and prevents surrounding teeth from moving out of proper alignment.
Long before we perform your extraction, we’ll talk to you about options for replacing the extracted tooth once healing is complete. Everyone’s case is unique, so we’ll explore all your options, including bridges, partial dentures, and dental implants.
