A new study by the American Dental Association found incredibly low rates of COVID-19 positivity among dentists. In fact, the positivity rates are much lower in dental offices, according to this study, than in other healthcare settings, which means dental care could be the safest form of healthcare and treatment to pursue during the pandemic.
It’s estimated that fewer than one percent of dentists were positive for COVID-19 in June. That’s on a nationwide scale!
This is wonderful news for both our dedicated staff and our amazing patients, who we have strived to keep healthy and safe throughout the last year.
At Dental Care at Moon Valley, we take every opportunity to safeguard your health, and we will continue to do so.
Why Are COVID-19 Rates Lower for Dentists?
Dental offices have taken the virus very seriously and have gone to great lengths to protect their visitors and employees. While dentistry was originally named an at-risk profession for contracting COVID-19, we have all put forth a lot of effort to reduce the risks.
Following advice from the American Dental Association and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, dental offices are using the highest level of personal protective equipment (PPE) possible. Recommendations also include using high-velocity suction and rubber dams whenever we can to limit aerosols and potential exposure.
In the study, dentists reported very high levels of adherence to these guidelines, making patient visits safer for everyone involved. Overall, the study found that most of those in the dental profession have implemented every possible precaution to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and they have been successful in their efforts.
